A 34-year-old man was arrested Wednesday (April 17) after posing as a trucking company driver and stealing 30 pallets of electronic devices, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. Press.
On March 25, the Sheriff’s Office received a report from a business indicating that a fraudulent shipping company had stolen 30 pallets of electronics. The victim reported that someone claiming to be a driver for the company arrived with fraudulent documents, according to the sheriff’s release.
Officials said the driver left the business with electronic devices intended to be shipped to a company in Colorado.
The sheriff’s news release said the Colorado company informed Fontana’s business that it had not received its shipment of electronics.
Detectives conducted surveillance on a residence in the 4900 block of River Ash Way in Fontana and identified the driver responsible for the merchandise theft as Amarveer Johal, 34, of Fontana, the news release states.
Johal was arrested Wednesday at the residence, the release said.
“Some stolen property was recovered from the residence and returned to the owner. Johal is believed to be responsible for other fraudulent merchandise thefts in the Fontana area,” deputies said in the news release.
