The suspect in Friday’s knife attack at Hamburg central station was placed by a magistrate in a psychiatric clinic on Saturday.
According to the police, the detention order concerns the attempted murder in collaboration with 15 chiefs of serious bodily injury.
Earlier in the day, German police said they saw no political reason behind the attack.
“On the contrary, there are now very concrete indications of a mental illness in the suspect,” said police on Saturday, without giving more details about his condition.
Police added that there is currently no indication that the 39 -year -old German woman was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. However, they did not provide more details.
According to the police, the suspect, from Lower Saxony, has no fixed home.
In recent months, Germany has been shaken by a series of violent attacks, many of which were motivated by jihadism or right -wing extremism.
Passers -by stopped the attack on the knife
The stabbing incident took place on the 13/14 platform at Hamburg central station on Friday evening just after 6:00 p.m. (1600 GMT), which led to a large police and rescue operation.
Thanks to the courageous intervention of two passers -by, the knife attack at the Hamburg central station was quickly arrested.
“The very fast intervention on the platform was able to stop the attack,” the police said on Saturday.
The emergency team was able to quickly stop the woman who did not resist the custody. Investigators currently believe that the attack was the act of a lonely author.
The knife used in the attack has been secured. Police said there were many eyewitnesses who should be questioned.
All the injured are in a stable state
Eighteen people, aged 19 to 85, were injured in the attack on Friday.
Three women, aged 24, 52 and 85, as well as a 24 -year -old man, were hospitalized with fatal injuries.
Seven other people were seriously injured and seven minor injuries suffered from others. Police said the injured were all stable.
On Saturday, the mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, said that some of the injured had been released from the hospital.
“It is a great relief. I hope they will recover well and wish them and their families a lot of strength,” wrote Tschantscher on the X social media platform, without specifying how many people have been published.
Four Bremen people were also injured in the knife attack at Hamburg central station, local authorities said.
The mayor of Bremen, Andreas Bovenschulte, said that he was “deeply shocked” by the attack. He added: “Fortunately, we have received the news today that the 18 injured people are now out of danger. I wish all those who involve complete recovery as quickly as possible.”
Meanwhile, trains appeared again at Hamburg central station in the morning after the attack, a spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn confirmed early Saturday.
