A suspect is in police custody after shots were drawn around 8:30 p.m. in Mariucci Arena Friday evening after the Wayzata diploma ceremony. Police said they didn’t think there was a continuous threat to the region.
Police chief of the University of Minnesota Police Department Erik Swanson said that in an email statement, two victims had been transported by paramedical ambulance at the County Medical Center of Hennepin.
He added that their condition was unknown at the moment.
“This is an active UMPD investigation with the help of the Minneapolis police service and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s office,” said Swanson. “Our thoughts concern the victims and their families.”
Witnesses say that the shooter shot a high school student from Wayzata and a passerby after the ceremony. According to Kare11A witness said he had heard a fight out of the participants, then heard shots.
