OAKLAND – A person was arrested Monday suspected of having shot a police vehicle occupied in what the authorities say “May” was an attempt to injure or kill the officer.
The officer was not injured, but the vehicle was hit on several occasions, the police said.
The suspect was arrested on Monday afternoon. The shooting took place about 30 minutes after midnight, on the 6000 block of Seminary Avenue in East Oakland.
Police did not release the name, sex or age of the suspect. They also did not identify the officer by name or sex.
The authorities say that the officer was in his car, investigating another incident, then heard shots and realized that the vehicle was hit by bullets. The officer was not injured.
A press release from the Oakland police said that the officer “may have been the planned objective, but does not say if the police have identified a potential reason.
