Supporters of a teenager beaten by police during a rally in Oak Lawn in front of the police department

OAK LAWN, Ill. (CBS) – Supporters of a teenager beaten by Oak Lawn police gather outside the department – calling for the officers involved to be fired.

Activists including the Arab American Action Network are also present.

The protest comes after video posted online showed Oak Lawn police repeatedly punching Hadi Abuatelah, 17, as he was pinned to the ground during an arrest last week.

The incident happened after a traffic stop. Police video shows Abuatelah fled before officers approached him.

Police say they found a loaded gun in his bag.

The teenager spent nearly a week in hospital.

He still faces charges.
