A better offensive evening of the season fueled the Phoenix Suns with a 130-105 victory against the Golden State Warriors on Friday evening.
Phoenix raised 41 assists of the season, carried out 19 3 and fired 56.2% on the ground. The decisive assists have been the most important of the Suns since December 2007, the 19 triples are the first five this year and the 56.2 FG% is the third best note this season. This allowed the rare victory of the eruption.
The Suns played a game OK defensively, most of the failures coming in transition and had too many reversals giving the Warriors free baskets. But when they are this offensive elite, they can overcome their faults. It was an underlined basement of their disappointing season, not being the nuclear offensive team that they should be, and rather well for most nights.
This game had a serious eruption energy in a quarter and a half, with Golden State (24-24) which did not manage much offense in the half-terrain while the Suns (25-22) were ultra-efficient with a big rhythm And not too out of control in other problematic areas. But then, the turnover and the transition defense of the SUNS became silly, putting the Warriors within six on a race of 10-3 for a match controlled by the Suns.
Phoenix’s response to these changes in the momentum was there in the victory on Monday, but was not absolutely in the defeat on Wednesday. He found one for this push, an increase of 8-0 to go up 14. The Suns made 13 of their first 17 attempts to shoot in the second quarter and finished the first half up 11 on the back of 20 assists on 24 goals in the field.
The Suns opened the third quarter on an 11-4 push, thanks to the constant energy games of Ryan Dunn and Nick Richards. This put Phoenix up 18 in three and a half minutes and offering the Warriors a chance to fold, which they will often do in this situation, with Golden State arriving in 1-18 when followed after three quarters. It would be just a question of if the Suns would give them a window to find part of this aforementioned momentum.
Phoenix extended the advance at 22, an effort helped by the Warriors missing 12 consecutive shots and having to finish the third quarter without Stephen Curry at rest. But a Brandin Podziemski 3, Moses Moody and One and another Podziemski 3 kept it in the 19 years when Kevin Durant started to warm up, giving Curry a photo in the first minutes of the final setting to make things interesting.
Golden State scored on four consecutive possessions (with three via curry) to reduce the Suns’ advance to only 18 because Phoenix responded to all those who have its own scores. The Suns persisted with this during the next two Warriors trips, which resulted in points, and at that time, Phoenix was up 23 with seven minutes to play.
After matching a career summit of nine reversals on Wednesday, Devin Booker bounced back to the recognizable form in which he was during most of January. He had 12 out of 23 in 32 minutes for 31 points with five rebounds, 11 assists and two reversals. Durant did not even have to play in the fourth quarter and added 19 while Bradley Beal mainly compensated for his five reversals with 21 points on 9 shots out of 12.
Grayson Allen ends the month of January with 53% of the 3 -point range and is now within the 46.1% at the top of the league compared to last season at 43.5%. The injuries started it slow and it was just a matter of time before rediscovering its shape. Allen collected 11 points, six rebounds, seven assists and a flight on Friday. His name appeared in commercial speculation, in particular as a player, the SUNS could evolve to acquire more recovery capital for a job by Jimmy Butler, but he has shown the last six weeks why he is precious for this team.
We have learned to know the “mathematics” in this space, otherwise known as the battle and the difference in possession at 3 points. Take more blows than the opponent via the management of rebounds and offensive reversals, while making more shots that count for one more point, and each evening, you will be in good position to win. Oklahoma City (Revitovers) and Houston (rebound) are the kings of two of these categories and are not coincidential the two leaders of the Western Conference.
It made Friday a great test for the Suns, facing an opponent, they have much more talent than it could overcome this by winning these margins in a decisive manner.
Upon entering the game, there was a major gap between these two rebounds and 3S teams. During the two -month period since the start of the free fall of Golden State, he was seventh as a percentage of offensive rebound and Phoenix was 29th, by cleaning the glass. For the defensive rebound, the warriors are third and the Suns are 24th. In 3 points of attempted match, the Warriors took nearly eight others. And in their last 10 games, they have an average of 45.2 per absurd night.
The turnover is the place where Phoenix should apparently invent part of it, an area that the two squads were perfectly blah during this period.
But, uh, when you get 19% better than the opposition and overthrow three 3 others, it will also. The Suns overcome an attempt at seven less shots and losing the two second chance points 9-4 and reversal points 15-12. In particular, none of these two numbers for Golden State was in the range of the best adolescents in the middle of the twenty when things were really messy.
Phoenix gave Ryan Dunn to the start of the match departure after playing only nine minutes coming back from a sprained ankle. Head coach Mike Budenholzer later said that it did not have much to do with the injury, a worrying indication that an entirely healthy team meant a drop in the minutes of Dunn, and Dunn was that 13 minutes on Friday. Even with a section with a strong impact as he had done in the third quarter, it seems that Dunn will give way to Beal, Royce O’Naale and Allen.
Richards posted 14 points and 16 rebounds with two blocks in just 24 minutes. He will make mistakes, but it is the type of production and presence around the edge that will continue to be of great help for the Suns.
The Warriors did not have Draymond Green (left -wing strain) or Jonathan Kuminga (sprained of the right ankle), which makes it the second consecutive match, the Suns played an opponent without two of his best players in minutes by match. It is particularly harmful to Golden State, because it does not particularly encounter media threshing in terms of depth and lack of coherent production of anyone other than Curry and Andrew Wiggins.
Curry was held in check at 14 points on 5 shots out of 14 while 17 each of Wiggins and Moody, plus 13 of Buddy Hield, was not enough fire power to participate in a shooting.
