Summer Game Fest ‘largely focused’ on announced games coming this year

The Summer Game Fest live showcase will be “largely focused” on previously announced games scheduled for release this year.

That’s according to event producer and host Geoff Keighley, who discussed plans for Friday’s event during a recent Q&A stream on Twitch.

The show will debut June 7 at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET / 10 p.m. GMT and will last about two hours, he said.

“One of the things you’ll see with the series this week is that we’ve really tried to squeeze some unexpected things, from smaller teams and indie studios, into the series as well, alongside some big games and blockbuster franchises that you will see on the show as well,” Keighley said.

“I think it’s going to be, in general, a little quieter this summer in terms of crazy new announcements and shocking surprises and things like that.”

“There will definitely be new announcements, but the series is largely focused, I think, on existing games that have new updates for fans, just in terms of level adjustments,” he added more late in the stream.

“(The) Game Awards usually hold big surprises and big, new revelations. This show is very, it’s largely focused on things that are advertised. There are some absolutely new game announcements throughout the series, but on level alone, it’s not all new stuff. These are usually things coming out later this year.

“And there are things that we will announce that will come out later this year that haven’t been announced yet, but it’s not a series that has a lot of things like, you know, coming in 2026 or 2027 , or teasers for games that last for years and years I try to think that every time is different, but that’s generally what I would say just in terms of setting expectations.

Keighley said fans will get a big update on what’s next for Palworld. Atlus will also take the stage to discuss Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Capcom will present Monster Hunter Wilds.

Keighley said there won’t be a new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer and that people speculating about Kingdom Hearts 4 are “setting themselves up for failure.” The Wolf Among Us 2 will not be showing, and despite recent speculation, there are “no plans” for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

On the subject of how many games will be broadcast, he said: “It’s always difficult when you talk about numbers because then people start guessing how many announcements there are, how many games.

“It’s hard to say. There’s a lot of games. On this show there are shorter moments on a bunch of games, there’s no game that we show for 15 minutes or something This is actually a sampling of a bunch of different games across the industry, which probably means more games rather than fewer, but it’s a really eclectic mix of games overall. Of the industry.
