Summary of episode 5 ” The Last of Us ” inside the Seattle Hospital

This message contains spoilers for the episode of this week of The last of usnow streaming on max.

This second season of The last of us was simultaneously more complicated and simpler. There are more characters in progress, between the gang of Jackson and the inhabitants of Seattle. And Cordycers itself continues to evolve; This fifth episode associates Ellie and Dina against a group of intelligent infects that can work together and make traps, and introduces a new Cordycepts strain which has become in the air, and can infect people who are never touched. There are things that we know that our heroes do not do it, and other things that we get clues, but that we are not entirely understood by the different factions of Seattle.

However, the story of the season is so hyper focused on this only objective of Ellie – a goal that seems more wrong of each passing week, this in particular – that he often feels much simpler, and sometimes thinner, than the cross -country trip from Ellie and Joel. The first season had a final objective of bringing Ellie to the Firefly base to Salt Lake City, but he had room for various detours and standing stops, where everything is a question of Ellie and Dina seeking to take revenge on Abby, with these last two episodes extending everyone in a single day. There are action documents – This week has the partners who fight against a group of Smart Infected and fleeing the Séaphites, followed by Ellie chasing the companion of Abby Nora in a hospital – but in terms of moving history, not much.

So, if you do not engage with the intrigue of revenge, there is not much to keep in an episode like this one-at least, not before its moments of closing, which bring Pedro Pascal back in an overview of Ellie’s life with Joel before his murder.

Very early on, Ellie thinks a little more about Dina’s pregnancy and finally seems to recognize how terrible it was to come to Seattle in the first place, and how stupid it is to stay – not only because the two women are enthusiastic about the idea of raising a child together, but because the city turned out to be much more dangerous than they assumed to be when they left Jackson. But when she raises her concern to Dina, Dina tells her the story of the first man she killed: a raid that massacred the rest of her family when she was only eight years old. “Would that make a difference if my family had first injured his people?” She asks, assimilating her situation to Ellie in Abby. “No. No. And if I hadn’t killed him, if he had fled, I promise you, I would have tracked him forever.” She says it’s Ellie to decide to stay or leave. And despite desperately wanting to be a dad, Elie cannot resolve to jump and go home. So, with this stubborn and useless quest that they continue.

Publisher’s choice

Liane Hentscher / HBO

We have more wolf packaging by themselves, but in this case, it is mainly to provide a context for what is happening when Ellie continues Nora in the hospital and they find themselves on a soil full of airborne infects. This sequence has some of the most frightening and most disgusting images of the series so far, with sporns cordyceps floating in the air and out of the mouths of the poor wolves who were unlucky to be on this floor before making the nature of this new threat.

Above all, however, we are in the POV of Ellie and Dina, so when they come up against Smart Infected, or are almost captured and killed by the Séaphites, we are as in ignorance of what is happening as they are . The Séaphites continue to resemble something later seasons ofThe Walking Dead Unfortunately. Wolves are a little more well balanced, but it seems that we get exactly the bad quantity: not enough for one of them to feel developed like characters and more than barrel fodder for this revenge mission, but too much so that it feels as if we were fully integrated into the Ellie and Dina camp.

In each situation, we remember that each half of the duo has a kind of superpower: Dina has an incredibly acute hearing, so she can generally have an idea of the number of infected in a space, and almost where they are; While Ellie is so small, she can hide in places that her Pochants simply cannot enter.

Jesse presents himself to save his friends when they are about to be overwhelmed by the intelligent infected, in a development that feels far too improbable even after explaining how he and Tommy found them. Having more characters means that the spectacle in theory does not also depend on a person as it was when Ellie and Joel were the only ones that counted. But the artifices are now necessary to keep some of the new figures of support at stake in a story like this. When she escapes Séaphites, Ellie has the choice between going to catch up with Jesse and Dina, or continue in the hospital in the hope of finding Abby. She remains more concerned with the mission than by Dina, then of course, she goes to the hospital, where she finds only Nora, who feels bad about the idea that Ellie has to watch Joel Die, but not on the murder himself. When they find themselves on the soil infected with air, Nora is surprised to realize that Ellie is safe – that she is “the immune girl”, the wolves were not entirely sure to be real .

This raises a question: if Abby knew that Joel had killed his father and the others to protect this allegedly immune girl, and she saw Ellie on the floor of this house in Jackson, shouting like Joel was her father, how did Abby put two and two together? And, given how she answered Joel killing

her

Dad, why would he devil would leave it alive? Trendy stories dying nora tells Ellie what Joel did to Salt Lake City, naively thinking that it will convince Ellie of the accuracy of their cause, and will encourage him to leave the rest of the friends of Nora alone. But we discover that Ellie already knew – that she understood that Joel lied to her for the first time, or in the five years that followed – and does not care. She catches a pipe that is no different from a certain golf club, and begins to torture Nora with him so that she abandons the location of Abby. Bushing people injuring people – even if they should have more important things to fear at this stage of history.
