ISLAMABAD — Police in the Afghan capital said a suicide bomber carried out an attack on Monday, killing at least six people and wounding 13 others.
The explosion took place in the Qala Bakhtiar district, southwest of Kabul, said Khalid Zadran, spokesman for the Kabul police chief.
Among the dead was a woman, he said, while 13 people were injured, all civilians who were taken to hospital for treatment.
A police investigation is underway. No one has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
The affiliate of the Islamic State group, the main rival of the ruling Taliban, has already carried out attacks on schools, hospitals, mosques and Shiite areas across the country.
The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in August 2021, during the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops after 20 years in power. Despite initial promises of a more moderate stance, the Taliban have gradually reimposed a harsh interpretation of Islamic law, or sharia, as they did during their previous rule in Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.
