A recent “massacre” at a suburban Oklahoma City home “does not define our family” or their lives, the victims’ family told Fox News Digital.

Last week, Jonathon Candy’s argument with his wife, Lindsay, escalated into “unspeakable tragedy” when he grabbed a gun from her “multiple times” and “systematically ran through the house shooting at the children ” said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. » said Gary Knight.

Three of his four sons – Dylan, 18, Ethan, 14, and Lucas, 12 – were all killed before Jonathan turned the gun on himself, police said.

For unknown reasons, a 10-year-old son was spared. He woke up to the “carnage” inside the home and called 911 before first responders found him outside the home, police said.

Fox News Digital spoke with Lindsay’s family, who is going through sudden grief.

They won’t mention the shooter’s name or even recognize him. It’s all about the little survivor, his uncle Brent Remerowski said.

It’s a close-knit family who spent the weekend together, all doting on the 10-year-old and talking among themselves about Lindsay, Dylan, Ethan and Lucas’ legacy.

“My nephew is adorable and he’s going to need a lot of help to get through this,” Remerowski told Fox News Digital. “People loved the kids. I got a ton of messages from everyone. It’s really heartwarming to see the love people have for them.”

The beloved uncle has created a GoFundMe that will cover funeral expenses, as well as his nephew’s counseling, education and well-being.

Brent told Fox News Digital as recently as Sunday evening and Monday morning that his nephew was holding on, especially over the weekend when the family got together.

“He has a lot of distractions (right now),” Brent said. “I’m just thinking about when all the attention ends and everything.”

He expanded on his thoughts in Monday’s GoFundMe update, where he thanked everyone’s “heroic” actions, including things done behind the scenes “that will probably never get attention, but are everything so important.

“There is no silver bullet,” he wrote in a post about online fundraising for his nephew. “But thanks to all of you who donated or shared this message, my nephew has a chance at a normal life.

His sister-in-law, Shannon Remerowski, thanked everyone for the “tremendous” support and love from family, friends and the community “as we begin to navigate the aftermath of this unspeakable tragedy.”

“My youngest nephew is safe and we will be forever grateful,” she said in a statement. “He is surrounded by people who love him and are committed to protecting and guiding him in the days to come.

“Many of you have offered it to us and we are deeply touched by your love and generosity.”

The local school district sent its condolences to the family after learning it had lost current students Ethan (6th grade) and Lucas (high school freshman) and Dylan, who attended and graduated from the local school system high school last year.

“We are shocked and our hearts are broken; this tragedy simply defies belief,” said school principal Charles Bradley.

Brent said many teachers taught all four children over the years.

Jonathan Candy argued with his wife, Lindsay (pictured), and killed her and three of their four sons before turning the gun over himself, according to Oklahoma City police.

The killer “stalked” his own children and “systematically went around the house shooting at the children,” Oklahoma City Police Sgt. » Gary Knight said at a press conference last week. “Make no mistake. What happened in this residence was nothing short of a massacre.”

First responders and law enforcement who arrived at the house were haunted, Knight said.

The reason for these murders “remains a mystery,” according to the police sergeant, and why a child was left alive “is a question that will never be answered.”

Meanwhile, the Mustang school district, where all four children attended or graduated from school, organized a crisis response team and urged parents to monitor their children’s behavior, even if they did not know the victims personally.

“Feelings of anger, hurt, guilt and sadness are natural,” Bradley said. “The most common grief reactions include trouble sleeping, temporary loss of appetite, anxiety, and fears about the health and safety of friends and family.

“Here are some suggestions for responding to your child’s questions and concerns: Listen to your children and let them know that you are available to answer their questions and that you are there for them at all times. Encourage your children to express their feelings and to talk about your own feelings.

The school district has listed resources, including this website, to help with these difficult conversations.
