Strike warns at Costco while teamsters reach a provisional transaction | US News

A strike that would have seen some 18,000 workers in Costco around the United States who traveled the post at midnight was avoided on Saturday, the Teamsters union reaching a line agreement just before the deadline.

The complete terms of the agreement have not yet been publicly disclosed.

The members of the teamsters employed by the retailer voted massively to authorize a ranging last month while negotiations on a new contract blocked. Citing Costco’s profits, which reached $ 7.4 billion last year, the union called for significant salary increases and benefits of social benefits.

“From the first day, we told Costco that our members did not work one day after January 31 without a advanced historic agreement,” said team president Sean O’Brien.

In January, Teamsters announced that members had voted 85% in favor of a strike, with the union of practice of practice stakes and rallying outside Costco headquarters in Washington during the annual meeting Society shareholders.

The union said that their questions submitted to the shareholders ‘meeting had remained unanswered, accusing negotiators of the “Nickel and Redd” workers’ company at the negotiating table while the company’s board of directors approved the “scandalous” wages for business leaders. Costco CEO Rich Vachris received more than $ 12 million in total compensation in 2024, his first year in the position.

“We demand a contract that corresponds to the success we have had,” said Paul Lowrie, a Costco fleet driver in Sumner, Washington said in a press release.

Before the proposed Strike, Costco has announced increases in remuneration for most of its store employees, with $ 1 an hour increases for employees per scale greater than $ 30.20 per hour, and $ 1 of $ 1 Annual increases over the next two years, saying that wage increases will make the hour wage for the store workers over $ 30 an hour. Workers at the bottom of the salary scale will receive an increase of $ 0.50 to $ 20 per hour.

While several major companies have canceled their diversity, their actions and their inclusion policies while Trump took office, notably Walmart, McDonald’s and Target, Costco defended its dei policies. The prosecutors of the Republican States threatened the company for having done so.
