STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Roland Dempster ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns and Stony Brook built a 23-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 37-10 victory over Stonehill in its home opener Saturday.
The Seawolves are recovering from a 45-3 loss to Marshall in their season opener a week ago. It was the third meeting between the two schools and the first since 1990.
Freshman Malachi Marshall was named the starter during the week and completed 9 of 16 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown and did not throw an interception. Dempster, who was held to 37 yards against the Thundering Herd, averaged 8.4 yards per carry against the Skyhawks and scored on runs of 17 and 15 yards in the first quarter and added a 3-yard run in the third.
Sebastian Regis recovered a fumble from Ashur Carraha and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown to cap the Seawolves’ scoring.
Carraha completed 18 of 36 passes, including one for a touchdown, but threw two interceptions in addition to his third-quarter fumble.
