Steve Albini, Nirvana producer and alternative rock royalty, dies at 61

Steve Albini, a Chicago-based rock producer who allied himself with Nirvana and against the corporatized music industry, has died.

Albini died of a heart attack, according to Taylor Hales, the manager of Albini’s Electrical Audio Recording studio. He was 61 years old.

As a producer, Albini brought the best out of many notable alternative rock bands of the ’80s and ’90s, including the Pixies and the Breeders. He also played in the bands Shellac and Big Black.
