On his transition to late night: “I was determined not to do a monologue. I thought, “I’m not a stand-up. I’m an actor.’ And then I fell in love with the monologue. You just need to relax, have a good time, and follow your instincts based on the stories that interest you.

Asking guests about their first jobs: “There are young people who have had a lot of success very early, and obviously I wish them bad. But I love people who have had to suffer.

On interviewing politicians and the upcoming elections: “With politicians, I feel a different obligation to ask the questions I want to ask, not the questions they want to be asked. It’s not like I want to be contradictory, but when you’re interviewing a politician, you can’t change what they want you to edit.

On the next elections of 2024: “During the elections, there is this news every day. Everyone pretty much knows what the story is. You don’t need to explain much to them. Everyone cares and no one dies.

On the 2020 elections: “Nobody cared, but people died – not just in the January 6 attacks, but a million people died because of the negligence in the COVID response. So this time around the stakes are very high and we’re having a hard time agreeing on the story. »

Back to acting: “It’s not like I want to drop the hammer on this pyre that we’re working in here and get back into the limelight. But if there’s something I used to do that I don’t do anymore, it’s acting. I miss that.”
