Friday, the Israeli army issued new evacuation orders for the districts of Gaza City when it moved forward with its offensive in the Gaza Strip ravaged by the war, once again offering a painful choice to the Palestinians on the fact of staying or going.
The orders targeted the city of East Gaza, including several parties that the soldiers declared the evacuation zones last week. This decision suggested that some people had stayed at home even after the Israeli army urged them to leave.
Since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed in March, Israel has published a succession of evacuation orders through Gaza because it takes a territory to create what it calls a “security zone” and targets Hamas. The orders have left many Palestinians who are struggling to stay in their neighborhood despite the danger or to leave despite the miserable travel conditions.
While the United Nations said that 390,000 people had been moved in recent weeks, the exact number of people remaining in the evacuation areas was not clear.
“We do not want to leave,” said Ahmad Al-Masri, 26, a resident of Beit Lahia in the north of Gaza who postponed the evacuation orders for his city. “Where are we going?” It’s so tiring. “
In some parts of Gaza, the soldiers expressed evacuation orders and then invaded by the ground. In other areas, he has set up evacuation orders, but did not send infantry. At least some Palestinians who ignored the evacuation orders said they would leave if the Israeli tanks were moving into their neighborhood.
