A season for seven-time world champion Hamilton to forget so far

Australian Grand Prix 2022: what was said?

Leclerc on his battle with Verstappen: “It was very tricky. I don’t think I could do much more. I think we did everything right – the strategy, the pit stops.

“We work very well as a team. The only thing we missed was a bit lower downforce.

On the next race in Melbourne: “It will be interesting. It won’t require the same setup as in the past, so adapting will be very important.

Hamilton: “It started to improve a bit, I started winning over the guys up front. It was a very good relay. I felt good at the time, but everything fell apart when the cars stopped.

“I got at least one point. We both scored points for the team.

“Not much has changed since the last race, but it’s only been a few days. I couldn’t keep up with the Haas at the end. We have a lot of work to do, that’s for sure, but I have a great team.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolf: “At the moment our track performance is not meeting our own expectations, but everyone at Brackley and Brixworth is focused on understanding the problems and finding the right solutions.

“There won’t be a magic bullet for the next race weekend, but we’re working hard to consistently deliver gains in the races to come, to hopefully get closer to the front of the peloton. .

“Until then, we need to maximize every opportunity and make the most of the package we have.

“So there are various challenges ahead of us, but that’s something we relish and that’s when a team really shows their true spirit.”
