St Helens Park shooting: House sprayed with bullets in fourth shooting to rock Sydney in a week

A gunman remains on the loose after a house in Sydney’s southwest was sprayed with bullets in the fourth shooting to rock the city in a week.

Three people were inside the house on Briggs Place in St Helens Park when an unknown gunman fired shots at the property around 7pm on Wednesday.

Witnesses told police that a dark-colored Audi sedan was seen leaving the scene after the shooting, which damaged the house and a car.

No injuries were reported.

Officers have established a crime scene outside the home and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

The shooting comes just a day after another home in Sydney’s west was sprayed with bullets with a burnt-out car discovered nearby.

A family of six were inside the house on Miles Street in Merrylands when they were targeted at around 10pm on Tuesday evening.

A burnt out Hyundai sedan was found in Bass Hill, about 10km from the house.

Police believe the shooter was in a light-colored car.

NSW Police Acting Superintendent Darren Beeche said the incident was suspected to be gang-related, but he probably went to the wrong house.

“I believe the family that lived in that house had nothing to do with crime, gangs or drugs,” he said at a news conference Wednesday.

“These people have poor intelligence and it’s usually a cowardly act by a coward in the middle of the night and unfortunately they often come to the wrong place.”

A young family was left shaken on Saturday after their home in Blacktown, in Sydney’s west, was mistakenly targeted in a suspected drive-by shooting.

The family took cover when bullets pierced the window of their home, with one bullet narrowly missing the head of a five-year-old child.

Last Thursday, a Constitution Hill home was deluged with bullets.

Four people escaped injury after the house was targeted at around 3.30am.
