The Biden family’s annual vacation to St. Croix has sparked controversy because the $3 million villa they are staying in has been listed on Airbnb – leveraging the president’s name to attract tenants.
The private seaside paradise known as Two Palms Villa, where the Bidens are currently staying to ring in 2024, was advertised on the vacation rental platform for a whopping $700 a night.
The owners boast that they have hosted President Biden on his frequent trips to St. Croix and are now available to fulfill vacationers’ dreams.
Despite federal ethics regulations prohibiting federal employees from supporting commercial ventures, the use of the president’s name in the villa list suggests an unlikely reckoning on Biden’s part.
The owners, Bill and Connie Neville, identified as personal friends of the Bidens, are hosting the family for free. This precious stay costs more than $6,000.
Although the listing on Airbnb bears the name “Rich”, presumably a property manager, it is made clear that the Bidens have no control over the rental site’s content.
“As they have done previously, the President and First Lady are staying with their friends Bill and Connie Neville,” a White House official told the Post.
The two left Air Force One Wednesday afternoon with their granddaughter Natalie, 19, daughter of their late son Beau, where they plan to stay until the New Year.
Villa Two Palms, featuring three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a dedicated workspace, an infinity pool, a chef’s kitchen and other amenities, is fully booked through April 1, 2024.
This recent use of the president’s name for commercial purposes contradicts the White House’s stance against such practices, reminiscent of a previous incident involving Biden’s brother promoting his relationship with the president for a law firm ad. .
“It is the policy of the White House that the President’s name should not be used in commercial activities to suggest, or in any manner that could reasonably be construed as implying, his approval or support,” a manager then declared.
The tropical retreat, located on Solitude Bay, offers serene views of the Caribbean Sea, access to a private beach and an ideal location for welcoming the New Year in the far eastern United States.
The photos depict vibrant interiors with colorful walls, rugs and cushions, creating a cozy atmosphere for family gatherings.
The Post previously reported that the property also appeared on rental site VRBO.
The Nevilles, known Democratic donors and veterans of Alabama’s tech industry, have a fortune estimated at $1 billion. Their philanthropy extends to charitable work, including fundraising for St. Croix animal welfare groups.
The Bidens’ affinity for Holy Cross dates back to 2008, traveling there almost every year. Biden notably frequented the island during his time as vice president and was the first sitting president to visit St. Croix since Bill Clinton visited in the 1990s.
