St Albans Melbourne: Police appeal for help to find man who allegedly sexually assaulted 66-year-old grandmother while playing with grandson: ‘Extremely disturbing’

Residents have been urged to help police identify a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a grandmother while she played with her grandson.

The incident happened in St Albans, west of Melbourne, in December last year.

The 66-year-old woman was playing with her young grandson on a nature strip at the intersection of Alfreda Street and Craigielea Avenue, when the man approached the couple.

The man, unknown to the grandmother, allegedly asked her for cigarettes.

The woman repeatedly told the man that she did not have one.

The grandmother then walked away from the man, but he allegedly followed her and then sexually assaulted her.

He also allegedly made inappropriate comments during the alleged attack.

The elderly woman shouted at the man before he walked away along Craigielea Avenue and into Collins Street.

He then returned by the same route.

The alleged attacker was described as being of African appearance and 175cm tall, with a slim build.

The man also has a mark on his left cheek and prominent teeth.

He was last seen wearing a black and white varsity jacket, a brown cap, a black shirt and dark-colored skinny jeans.

Detectives have released CCTV footage and created a profile of the man, which they believe will help them in their investigation.
