Square Enix has planned to end this 23 -year -old game, but too many people still play it

According to Yoji Fujito, the producer and director of Final Fantasy XI, the continuous support of the game could have ended in 2024. The players’ interest was high enough for Square Enix to finally decided not to stop supporting the MMO, however, and a series of new updates is expected throughout this spring and this summer.

Final Fantasy XI was the first MMO in the longtime RPG series, and it was launched for the first time for PS2 in Japan on May 16, 2002. The live support of the MMO, which is now played on PC, continued since. Final Fantasy XI, which Gamespot examined until 2003, survived the fusion of Square with Enix, the disastrous launch and greeted the Renaissance of Final Fantasy XIV, and all the other changes in the MMO space that have occurred since the 23 years since its launch. It is not the most popular MMO, but it has a dedicated and passionate fans base.

This dedicated fans base finally saved the game. In an interview with Dengeki Online, translated by Automaton Media, Fujito explained that Square Enix had previously planned to end Final Fantasy XI by 2024 after the end of the Vorace resurgence script.

“There was a real possibility that 2024 is that the updates of the year would end, the game transforming into a so -called maintenance mode, where only the maintenance of the system would be carried out,” said Fujito. “We thought that if the voracious resurgence ended and that FFXI was clearly starting to lose its momentum, then we may really have to prepare to end it. But that did not happen. I took this as a sign that we should continue to perform the game.”

In the end, Fujito says that the fact that Final Fantasy XI continued to receive “a lot of support” from players is the reason why Square Enix is still determined to support him now. A series of updates for the 23rd year of the service has also been revealed, including a new high -level battlefield called The Orb’s Radiance, a new master master called Wing of War, the possibility of paying to modify the breed, sex, face, hair and the size of your character, the configuration medium for the game round, etc.

Final Fantasy XI is available on PC, and the support does not seem to end anytime soon.
