Virgil van Dijk summed up the mood of Liverpool fans as he watched in shock as his teammates relinquished a 1-0 lead within minutes.

A quick brace from Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz gave AC Milan a shocking lead at Anfield in the Champions League.

Ex-Man City man Diaz went 2-1 against AC Milan against the run of the game

Liverpool started off as a house on fire and rightly went ahead via an own goal of Fikayo Tomori from a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds were absolutely dominant and could and perhaps should have doubled their lead minutes later as Mohamed Salah missed a penalty for the first time since 2017.

The home side eventually got tired and AC Milan settled in and took advantage of it.

Rebic completed a nice move sweeping the ball past Alisson and as the away team celebrated the goal, BT Sport’s camera cut Van Dijk who watched with a look of shock on his face.

He summed up the frustration inside Anfield and it would only get worse as ex-Manchester City man Diaz turned the tide.

Liverpool are desperate to turn things around in the second half to avoid disappointment on Matchday 1.

Salah managed to level them up early in the second half.

He traded a one-two with Divock Origi but apparently had to wait an age for the ball to drop low enough for him to pass Maignan.
