Mikel Arteta has raised the possibility of Arsenal Wenger returning to Arsenal and hopes he can “bring him closer”.

The legendary Gunners manager left the club in 2018 after 22 years of loyal service during which he became the only boss in Premier League history to go undefeated in one season.

Wenger bid farewell to Arsenal in May 2018 after 22 years at the helm

The current club manager has no doubts about the impact Wenger’s presence would have as he revealed their conversation during the Frenchman’s film premiere.

“It was incredibly nice to see him and chat with him and I hope we can bring him closer,” he explained in his pre-match press conference.

“I think he would have a great time just seeing the environment he can create around him when he’s in this place because of the respect, admiration and love that everyone at the club a for what he has done and also for what he represents as a person in this club.

Although he wants and hopes that Wenger will return to the club, Arteta could not say anything about the type of role he would have.

“I can’t tell you now but what I can say is I wish he was much closer, personally to me because I think that would be of great help, I think that would be a great help for a club.

“Things take time and I think he has to dictate these times and what I can say from my side, I think on behalf of everyone we would love to have him much closer.”

The Frenchman’s return to Arsenal could give everyone a much needed boost as they battle for a top 4

While there is nothing concrete to suggest Wenger is back, this isn’t the first time he’s teased Gunners fans about their return when the Frenchman said he would help if necessary.

“If I am needed, I will help them,” said the 72-year-old, “but I don’t expect that, no.”

Meanwhile, away from landowner Stan Kroenke, had to pay a whopping $ 790million (around £ 592million) settlement for his NFL franchise move.

Kroenke uprooted the Rams from their original home in St. Louis, Missouri – where they played for 20 years until 2016 – in Los Angeles. It turns out to be a very costly decision for the 74-year-old who also paid $ 550million (£ 412million) to move the club to LA in the first place.

Whether this will have any effect on Arsenal’s transfer plans remains to be seen, but with the January window looming, that’s a question fans will want to know.
