Sport News Mikel Arteta says ‘shocked’ Gabriel ‘showed a lot of character’ after Arsenal defender battled thieves, one with a baseball bat, at home

Mikel Arteta said Arsenal defender Gabriel was “shocked” but “fine” after battling two thieves at his north London home.

Images of the Brazilian and a friend confronting two men trying to steal his Mercedes and his watch emerged on Tuesday evening.

Abderaham Muse, who has been named as one of the forwards, pounced on the Brazilian with a bat.

Gabriel punched him in the face, grabbed his hat and wrestled with him before the attackers finally fled.

Muse was jailed for five years last month after police were able to identify him using the hat’s DNA.

It is not known when the offense took place, but Arteta has revealed that the club give Gabriel all the support he needs as he praises the player’s character.

Arteta praised Gabriel for the way he behaved following the incident

Arteta told reporters: “Obviously it’s not a good thing to go through when your family is involved and they are trying to gain access to your own home.

“Gabi showed a lot of character, you see the reaction he got right away. Credit to the boy.

“And after that he was fine. Obviously he was shocked and there were a few other things he wanted to change in his life to prevent these things from happening again.

“The club gave him all the support he needed to try to get over this situation, learn from it and move on.”

Gabriel wants to put the incident behind him

Gabriel, who joined the Gunners from the French side of Lille in 2020, is not the only Arsenal player to be attacked.

In July 2019, Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac pushed back two gunmen who were looking for their luxury watches outside the German’s home in Hampstead.

Ashley Smith and her accomplice Jordan Northover were jailed later that year for the attempted robbery.
