With Steve Bruce set to be sacked by Newcastle, the club’s new owners are on the hunt for a new manager.

However, it will not be Brendan Rodgers, with reports indicating that the Leicester boss is “not interested” in taking the job at St James’ Park.

Brendan Rodgers to stay at Leicester

Former Liverpool and Celtic boss Rodgers won the FA Cup with Leicester last season and has been touted as a possible Bruce replacement.

Sky Sports News reports that the Northern Irishman is happy at Leicester and believes there is still a long way to go with his current squad.

The Foxes have struggled so far this season and are currently 13e in the Premier League, with just two wins so far this campaign.

Steve Bruce is still Newcastle manager… for now

Newcastle was bought by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund last week and is looking to replace current boss Bruce.

The Magpies are now one of the richest clubs in world football and, like Rodgers, have been linked with big names who could potentially take the reins of Tyneside.

Former Chelsea managers Antonio Conte and Frank Lampard are two work-related names, along with Lucien Favre and Steven Gerrard.

Graham Potter has also been linked with Newcastle work

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has said he would have preferred Rodgers to get the job rather than one of those names, but his other shout – Brighton boss Graham Potter – could still be an option, however.

“You hear about some of the names that are linked now, top coaches like Conte and people like that,” the former Premier League striker told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“Who’s bringing Newcastle to this point?” You can’t have it right away because Newcastle are second in the table.

“I heard Lampard’s scream, but I would probably choose Graham Potter or Brendan Rodgers, put them both above him.”
