Sport News Dana White Says Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 Is ‘Exactly What Boxing Needed’ After Anthony Joshua Loses Oleksandr Usyk As He Praises

Dana White praised the “awesome” bout between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, describing it as “exactly what boxing needed”.

The WBC and Ring Magazine heavyweight titles were on the line, but the trilogy fight between two of the best heavyweights of that era had a lot more gravity than the belts.

Fury KO’d Wilder to retain heavyweight title

For three years, Wilder and Fury tormented each other, their first two fights perfectly setting the stage for a trilogy fight that will be talked about for decades in the same tones it deserved in Las Vegas.

The Briton put his man on the canvas in the third round, but the former champion rallied and knocked down Fury twice with his trademark right hand.

Yet the “Gypsy King” has looked death in the face on several occasions and feared no man, finding the strength to retreat from the ground and drop Wilder two more times in the 10.e then the 11e tower.

White has always expressed concern about the way people in the upper echelons of boxing behave and lamented that the best don’t fight the best. But the UFC boss has nothing but praise for what he saw on Saturday night in Sin City.

The WBC champion sang a rendition of “Walking in Memphis”

“I thought it was awesome,” he said on Dana White’s Contender series. “I think the heavyweight fight that happened on Saturday … and let me tell you this [first]. Entering it, my thought process was “for what, why?” you know what I mean.

“[Anthony Joshua] I just got beaten up, and yeah, why do that… you know why? Because boxing needed that. Boxing needed this fight.

“It was an incredible heavyweight fight. I thought the two guys got into a fight.

“And for Fury to get to 277 pounds and fight like he fought – get knocked down, get up and keep fighting.” It was just, it was exactly what boxing needed.

“So, [I am] happy that this has happened and congratulations to you both, to everyone involved and to the sport of boxing. “
