Amir Khan admitted he was “shocked” to see his wife Faryal Makhdoom interview with Sky Sports at the press conference for his fight with Kell Brook.
The British rivals will finally meet on February 19 in Manchester after years of verbal fights and chatter.
It’s a fight that is likely to grab the nation given the two men’s distinguished careers, with Khan transcending the sport of boxing to soak up the mainstream.
As well as winning an Olympic silver medal in Athens at the age of 17, the Briton also had a successful stint on “I’m A Celebrity” in 2017.
As well as being the highest-paid camp member in the show’s history, the 34-year-old suffered a public break-up with Makhdoom as it grew bitter and personal between the two families.
However, the couple are now stronger than ever and it looks like she learned a thing or two about boxing during their eight-year marriage, much to Khan’s surprise.
He said while distracted in an interview with SecondsOut: “Is the woman doing an interview on Sky?
“What’s going on here? I’m like ‘wait a minute’… .she’s really good at what she does but (makes a face).
The interviewer then tried to pressure Khan to answer that he was with Terrence Crawford’s camp, but the Briton remained distracted.
“I’m a little shocked. I see the woman on Sky talking about boxing.
“She knows boxing, a lot of people don’t give her credit. She sometimes tells me what to do in boxing.
“Say we’re watching a fight together, ‘ah, he should jab some more. Why is it not good for the body? He must strike with the left backhand, because his guard is too low. He has to put his hands up.
“So she knows a bit about boxing, which surprises me quite a bit because she normally keeps her quiet.”
The interviewer then joked, “She’ll have expert work before you.” Khan replied, “I know, yeah, who knows.”
In the same interview, Makhdoom called Brook “boring” and insists she was “impressed” by the way her husband behaved.
“I was so impressed,” she told Sky Sports. “Amir looked really confident, really cold.
“And some of the things he dated were shocking.
“So it was funny, it went well, it made everyone laugh.
“Kell was a little … Kell needs … he was a little … boring.”
