Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, the married couple known for starring in The hillsare part of a group of more than 20 people suing Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power over the Los Angeles wildfires. Pratt and Montag, who lived in the Pacific Palisades, lost their home in the wildfires and documented the process on social media. They filed their lawsuit on January 21, alleging reverse conviction, according to the Los Angeles Timeswhich gives money to property owners when their property is injured by public use. The suit blames the city’s water supply for the damage to their home, citing that the Santa Ynez Reservoir has been offline for repairs that were requested in January 2024 and were not going to be completed until April 2025 at most early, according to reports from the Times.
The claim states that LA and the Department of Water and Power made “a conscious decision to operate the water system with the reservoir drained and unusable as a ‘cost-saving measure’ . DWP claimed the Santa Ynez Reservoir was taken out of service due to drinking water regulations. Pratt, Montag and the rest of the defendants are seeking damages to be determined at trial.
