Spencer Carbery became the fourth head coach in the history of the Washington Capitals franchise to win the Jack Adams award as a NHL year trail on Saturday morning.
Carbery led the Capitals 2024-25 to a first place in the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference. He beat the Scott Arniel of the Winnipeg Jets and Martin St. Louis of the Montreal Canadiens for the honor given each year to the coach who “contributed the most to the success of his team” as elected by members of the NHL Diffusers’ Association.
The native of Victoria, British Columbia, 43 years old, previously won the Louis Ar Pieri Memorial Award as the most remarkable coach of the AHL in 2020-2021 with the Hershey Bears and the prize of the year coach John Brophy in 2013-2014 with the Southern Southern Southays. Carbery is the first to win the year -round coach in the NHL, AHL and ECHL – The Best Professional Leagues in North America.
Carbery was surprised by the price of his whole family, while the capital prepared their bench boss for a summary interview with false season with Joe Beninati of Monumental Sports Network. At the first glance of his relatives entering the studio behind a representative bearing the price, Carbery became visibly emotional.
The wife of Carbery, Casey, their two children, Hudson and Vivian, as well as his father, Bryan, mother-in-law, Bonnie, mother, Kate, and her stepfather, Stephen, were among the many to help grant honor.

Carbery was the sixth capital head coach Since the first instituted prize in 1973-1974 to be appointed finalist and the first since Barry Trotz (2016) to win him. The caps collected a record of 51-22-9 during the regular season of 2024-25, winning 50 games for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign.
“In the ultimate team sport, as a coach, everything that attracts attention to you – our support staff and obviously our players, all these people deserve so much credit for this price,” added Carbery.
After his first season in charge of capital last year, Carbery finished seventh in the price voteAnd he ordered the ceilings with much better figures this season. The team scored 70 more goals and granted 23 less goals, improving their goal differential from less-36 to more-57, a jump of 93 goals in just one year.
Capitals also accumulated 20 additional ranking points that the previous season, becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs after having fake in the last place in 2023-24.
Carbery also became the first capital coach to win an eliminatory series since Trotz led them to the 2018 Stanley Cup when the team finished the Montreal Canadians in the first round of this year. Washington head coach honored in a special surprise trophy presentation
New York (June 7, 2025) – Spencer Carbery of Washington Capitals is the 2024-25 recipient of Jack Adams Award while “the NHL coach tried to have contributed the most to the success of his team”, as selected by the NHL Broadcasters’ Association.
Carbery believed that he was sitting for an end -of -season interview when family members – including his wife and children – surprised him with the trophy.
Carbery is Washington’s fourth head coach to win the Jack Adams Prize, after Bryan Murray (1983-84), Bruce Boudreau (2007-08) and Barry Trotz (2015-16). He also became the first individual to capture the honors of the year’s coach at the ECHL, AHL and NHL levels, after winning the John Brophy de l’Echl Prize in 2013-2014 (South South Carolina) and Louis Ar Pierri Memorial Award of AHL in 2020-21 (Hershey Bears).
The second-year capital’s head coach was a flight winner, receiving 81 votes in first place among the 103 voting bullets for 464 voting points. Scott Arniel des Jets de Winnipeg collected 16 votes in first place by finishing second with 249 points, followed by Martin St. Louis of the Montreal Canadians (66 points).
Carbery led the capital (51-22-9, 111 points) to the overall record n ° 2 in the NHL as well as the seeded of the Eastern Conference for the first time since 2016-17. After seeing an improvement of 11 points in its first season, Washington jumped 20 points this year – the third gain of 2023-24 behind Columbus (+23) and Anaheim (+21).
