An Al Ittihad player appears to have been whipped by a spectator the day after Thursday’s Saudi Super Cup final.
Al Ittihad faced Al Hilal for the trophy but lost 4-1 in the evening.
The result was a blow to N’Golo Kante, Jota and Karim Benzema, all involved for Al-Ittihad. But the fury they felt was unlike that of a bystander, who seemed to let his emotions get the better of him.
Abderrazak Hamdallah, scorer of Al Ittihad’s goal, tried to splash the spectator with water as he left the field, but the supporter in question was not amused.
Pulling out a whip, the supporter whipped Hamdallah twice before several of his teammates intervened to come to the attacker’s rescue.
Meanwhile, another fan pulled the culprit away before stadium security could intervene.
Al Ittihad stars were left furious by the incident, with the event an overreaction to a cup final defeat.
Moroccan international Hamdallah has been playing in Saudi Arabia since 2018 having previously played for Al Nassr before joining his current club in 2021.
Losing to Al Hilal is no shame as the Saudi team is 12 points clear at the top of the Saudi Pro League standings.
Al Ittihad, meanwhile, are fourth and 30 points off the top of the standings.
