The head of the EU commerce, Maroš Šefčovič, said that ministers will discuss “how … to prevent a possible embezzlement and how to ensure that (the European trade system) will provide adequate support and services to European companies in this very difficult situation.”
Although he called on the weekend not to degenerate tensions with the United States, the Spanish minister has not excluded the trade in services, in particular by hitting the Silicon Valley and Wall Street.
He added that the block should use all the tools he has at his disposal, including the anti -coercion instrument – which is one of the most powerful commercial tools in the EU and allows the block to take large -scale measures such as the restriction of intellectual property rights.
“The first priority when carrying out this discussion should be to protect or minimize the damage to our own industries, to our own products, in all, in all the measures we take that we decide,” he said.
“This would mean that we must explore the use of all the instruments that are available to us. That’s sure. We must not exclude anything. “
“The anti-Corcecion instrument is there so that we use it in case we judge it necessary. But again, the message that the EU should take today is positive,” added Cuerpo.
