The Santa Clara Choir and the San Jose Chamber Orchestra joined on May 2 to celebrate the centenary of the composer of the region of Baie Kirke Mechem. The concert, scheduled for 8 p.m. at Mission Santa Clara, will also set out room singers and vocal ensembles from the University of Santa Clara Resounding Achord and Sacred and Profane.
Mechem, a former member of the Faculty of Music at the University of Stanford whose 100th anniversary is on August 16, is known for his first opera, “Tartuffe”. He is currently working on an opera adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen.
