A jury in Los Angeles found rapper Soulja Boy responsible for the sexual drums and assault, ordering him to pay $ 4 million to a woman who said that he had become violent towards her when their former professional relationship had become romantic, said woman’s lawyer.
On Thursday, the decision, which was also reported by the Associated Press, came after a trial of almost a month, in which the woman said that she had started as assistant to the rapper.
She accused him of attacking him physically and sexually over two years. Soulja Boy – known for songs like “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”, “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” and “Pretty Boy Swag” – denied the affirmations during the trial.
“Our client is satisfied and justified by the verdict,” said Neama Rahmani, woman lawyer, whose name was not revealed in the procedure, in a press release. “Yesterday’s verdict is only the start of justice for the victims of the boy of Soulja and a calculation for the whole music industry.”
Reading a declaration on his phone, Soulja Boy, whose real name is Deandre Cortez Way, criticized the verdict outside the Superior Court in the county of Los Angeles after the verdict.
“I believe that this whole process was tainted by a system that is not designed to protect the rights of the accused,” said Way. “I clearly mean that I am innocent.”
