Sonic boom from Department of Defense plane rattles residents of DMV area; DoD confirms no threat to the public

A thunderous explosion heard in the Washington metro area on Sunday afternoon was a sonic boom from a Department of Defense aircraft, officials said.
Shaken residents took to Twitter to report hearing some sort of explosion in the area around 3pm on Sunday.
“There are no threats at this time,” DC Homeland Security & Emergency Management said in a statement. Tweeter regarding loud noise.
Annapolis police said the cause of the noise in the DMV area was an authorized Department of Defense aircraft.
Officers say the plane caused a sonic boom afterwards.
Local police departments, including the Metropolitan Police Department and the Bowie Police Department in Maryland, said they had dispatched units to area neighborhoods and found no other source for the noise. from the explosion.
