Somerville man accused of assaulting women while posing as a chiropractor

A Somerville man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting two women on separate occasions while posing as a chiropractor.

A preliminary investigation by authorities indicates that Mendez operated an unlicensed chiropractic business from his Cross Street home and that on two occasions he assaulted women who entered the residence for treatment, prosecutors said. Middlesex District, Marian Ryan, and Somerville police in a statement.

Both victims said Mendez touched them inappropriately, authorities said. One of the victims also claimed that Mendez unzipped his pants and exposed himself to her.

Authorities said they believe Mendez relied on word of mouth and referrals within the community to run his business.

They urge anyone with information about Mendez or his unlicensed chiropractic business to call Somerville police at 617-625-1600 x7278.

At last week’s arraignment in Somerville District Court, a judge ordered Mendez held on $5,500 bail, provided he stays away from his alleged victims and he does not practice chiropractic.

He is due back in court on May 14.
