UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Kemi Badenoch said on Friday that in the UK some people bring problems and negative attitudes wherever they come from. Badenoch said this in response to a question on Khalistani sympathizers posed by Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal during the B20 India 2023 Summit in New Delhi.

Calling the violent protest outside the Indian High Commission in London earlier this year a “shame” that “should never have happened”, she said “no one should have been attacked in this way, again minus the representatives of another country”.

She said there will always be problems in any country, regardless of the size of its superpower. The UK reminds people that they are in a new country and need to imbibe its values, adding that his country wants to make sure everyone who comes there feels safe, Badenoch said .

Citing examples such as British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, she said that like its multiracial society, the country’s government is also racially agnostic.
Regardless of what happens on the ground, not only Indian government officials but also businesses are welcome in the UK, she said. She told Goyal that the two democracies have a long-standing friendship and with a common language and values, negative incidents should not be allowed to disgrace the relationship between the two countries.
