Solar eclipse March 2025 Date and time in India: Prepare to attend the first solar eclipse of 2025 on March 29. This partial solar eclipse will be the first of the two solar eclipses in 2025. However, as is the next total lunar eclipse, also known as Blood Moon, the partial solar eclipse will only be visible in certain parts of the world.
The solar eclipse will be visible from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, North America and South America. However, viewers in North America will benefit from the best possible viewing experience, as it will happen just around sunrise. Unfortunately, the solar eclipse will not be visible from part of India.
Why is it called a partial solar eclipse?
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon occurs between the sun and the earth. When the moon completely covers the sun, it is called a total solar eclipse. However, in this case, the Moon will only cover part of the sun, hence the name “partial solar eclipse”. Interestingly, a solar eclipse is always followed by a lunar eclipse about two weeks later, or vice versa.
According to the Indian Standard Time (IST), the solar eclipse will start on March 29 at 2:20 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring at 4:17 p.m. The eclipse will end at 4:13:45 p.m., lasting about four hours in total.
Unlike a lunar eclipse, which is sure to observe with the naked eye, it is not advisable to directly look at a solar eclipse, as it can cause retinal burns and cause permanent eye lesions. Always use good eye protection when visualizing a solar eclipse.
