Snooker star Stephen Maguire appeared to eat something on the mat during his quarter-final match against David Gilbert.

The bizarre incident occurred in the 19th frame, with the Scot trailing his World Snooker Championship rival 11-8 at the Sheffield Crucible.

Maguire looked at the table after playing a shot and appeared to take something out of it, before eating it and continuing the match seemingly unfazed.

Whatever the 43-year-old ate didn’t help him in his quest to reach the semi-final of the world championship as he lost 13-8 to Gilbert, who will face either Kyren Wilson or John Higgins in semi final.

This isn’t the first time this tournament that Maguire has made headlines for his behavior on the mat.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Scot hit the table after playing a poor positional shot against Gilbert.

As he moved around the table to prepare his next move, Maguire hit the mat in frustration before returning to his chair.

“He can’t hide his annoyance, his anger,” said Eurosport commentator Phil Yates.

‘Why does he do it? One of these days he will regret it dearly. Yes, show frustration, but not like that.

“I like Maguire’s passion, I just don’t want to see him get injured.”
