SNCF ticket prices in 2025: what increases come into force this Wednesday?

The increase is much less significant than in previous years, but it is still likely to raise eyebrows. The SNCF formalizes, this Wednesday, the increase in part of its fare scale: it will be on average 1.5% in 2025, compared to 2.6 points last year, and 5 points increase in 2023. after the train operator, this represents an average increase of 1 euro per ticket. An increase which, it should be noted, only applies to those purchased from Wednesday January 8.

“This is a very moderate increase, below the inflation programmed by INSEE, at 1.7%, noted Alain Krakovitch, director of TGV Intercités, to Le Parisien. I would also like to remind you that the cumulative increase in our prices is 8% since 2019. This is much lower than all other modes of transport.”

Intercity tickets increase by 1.9%

For the maximum prices of TGV Inoui and Ouigo, the changes will vary from “1 to 7 euros” depending on the lines. This increase will not affect the entire range of tickets, since the lowest prices will remain the same. One in two “leisure tickets” will be less than €47, promises the SNCF. The conditions of the Advantage Card (€49) as well as the Max Jeune and Senior subscriptions (€79) also remain unchanged.

Intercités tickets, on the other hand, are inflated by 1.9% on average. Among the other “losers”, the Junior & Cie offer which increases by 3 euros on average depending on the destination, with the package also costing 1 € more. As for Max Active and Max Active + subscriptions, they will be increased by 4% on average from April 1.

Cost increases, despite a record 2024

The company justifies these price changes by the need to compensate for the increase in its operating costs, particularly tolls. The passage fees that it must pay to SNCF Réseau, manager responsible for maintaining the rail network, have increased by 3% in 2025, according to Alain Krakovitch.

According to BFMTV, however, its revenues are not at half mast: last year, there were never so many travelers on the trains of its TGVs, which were 84% full on average. In total, nearly 130 million people used this mode of transport, a record.
