LOS Angeles – The legendary Motown singer, singer -songwriter and musician Smokey Robinson is the subject of a criminal investigation by the Sheriff department of the County of Los Angeles following allegations accusing him of a series of sexual assault dating from 2014.
The accusations occurred last week in a civil prosecution filed by four former governments which worked for Robinson, 85, in which they require $ 50 million in damages. A singer’s lawyer denies allegations.
In a written statement, the Sheriff department said Thursday: “The Special Office of Special Victims of the Sheriff’s Department of Los Angeles is actively investigating criminal allegations with William Robinson Aka” Smokey Robinson “. The investigation is in the early stadiums and we have no comments.”
In the civil trial, the four women, identified only as Jane are 1 to 4, accuse Robinson of what their lawyer, John Harris, calls “battery, aggression, false imprisonment, gender violence and creation of a hostile work environment”.
Robinson’s lawyer denies the accusations
An interpreter’s lawyer, Christopher Frost, says that the accusers only submitted their police report after the civil prosecution was filed to make their case known.
The deposit of the report requires that the Sheriff department will be investigated.
In a written declaration, Frost said: “We are convinced that determination will be made that Mr. Robinson has done nothing wrong, and that it is a desperate attempt to prejudge public opinion and make even more than a media circus than the complainants were previously able to create.
“The file will finally demonstrate that it is nothing more than a manufactured trial.”
The civil trial also appoints Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson.
The accusers detail some of the alleged acts
Harris said last week: “Our four customers have a common thread. They are Hispanic women who were employed as a cleaning lady by the Robinsons, winning below the minimum wage.
“As low -wage workers in vulnerable posts, they did not have the resources and options necessary to protect themselves from sexual assault throughout their mandate as an employee for Robinsons.”
The lawyer says that women did not come forward earlier due to their immigration status.
He detailed some of the specific allegations.
Harris said that in the case of Jane Doe # 1, Robinson “would invoke him in his blue room, which you will probably hear about. After having come to take a shower, he would leave the naked naked bathroom and would force her to have sex with him against his will.
Robinson’s legendary musical career
Robinson, an emblematic figure of the music industry, became famous in the 1960s as a member of the group The Miracles. Later, he became known as Smokey Robinson and The Miracles. Based in Detroit, the group helped create the “Motown sound”.
Among the group’s greatest successes were “you really have a grip on me”, “I secondly this emotion” and “the tears of a clown”.
Later, as a solo interpreter, his hits included “Being With You”, “One Heartbeat” and “Just to see them”, which earned him a Grammy Award for the best male vocal performance R&B.
Robinson was inducted at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Miracles were inducted in 2012.
