Small Maryland plane crashes into power lines leaves 85,000 without power, two stranded inside suspended plane

A small plane crashed Sunday night into power lines in Montgomery County, Maryland, leaving tens of thousands of electric customers without power, reports said.
Fox station WTTG in Washington, DC, said the plane crashed into power lines around 6:15 p.m. in the Montgomery Village section of Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Department chief spokesman Pete Piringer said on Twitter that the small plane was suspended about 100 feet in the air with two people on board.

The two occupants were not injured, the post said, and rescue teams were at the scene.
Piringer also reported widespread power outages from the crash.

Pepco reported that about 85,000 customers were without power due to the plane crash.
Electrical crews are assessing the damage, read a tweet from the power company, and they are working closely with county fire and EMS crews.

“We are awaiting clearance to arrive on scene before crews can begin work to stabilize the electrical infrastructure and begin to restore service,” Pepco said.
