Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot and wounded on Thursday, according to local media and the country’s president.
“I strongly condemn today’s brutal and merciless attack against Prime Minister Robert Fico. I am in shock,” President Zuzana Caputova said on Facebook.
The incident took place in the town of Handlova, northeast of the capital Bratislava, according to local media. A journalist from the Dennik N newspaper reportedly heard gunshots and then saw rescuers carrying Fico to a car.
