Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was placed in home care following an assassination attempt, the hospital announced Friday.

Banská Bystrica Hospital confirmed on Thursday that Fico’s health condition had shown positive progress after undergoing further examinations and starting rehabilitation.

An attacker shot Fico at close range with four bullets in Handlova, central Slovakia, on May 15. The 59-year-old prime minister suffered life-threatening abdominal injuries and underwent several surgeries.

The attacker, Juraj Cintula, 71, was apprehended at the scene and charged with attempted premeditated murder.
