A Sky Sports journalist was manhandled while trying to speak with the Liverpool manager’s latest lover, Feyenoord boss Arne Slot.

Slot has emerged as the number one candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp and talks are developing rapidly with Liverpool, who could even complete a deal this weekend. They could pay him more than £10million in compensation.

Journalist Gary Cotterill captured a moment with Slot after emerging from the Feyenoord team bus ahead of their Eredivisie match against the Go Ahead Eagles this evening, but he had to be wary of getting too close.

A member of Slot’s entourage had a hand on his shoulder and ended up placing himself between Cotterill and the Dutchman, cutting their conversation short.

For Liverpool fans, the fact that Slot smiled when asked about his links with the club is an encouraging sign.

However, a member of Slot's entourage was firm in handling Cotterill and inserted himself between them.

Slot has emerged as the favorite candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The 45-year-old won the Eredivisie last season and delivered a KNVB Cup to Feyenoord’s trophy cabinet this season.

His style of possession, attack and pressing has earned him flattering comparisons with Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Johan Cruyff.

And he was more than happy to have a chat with Sky Sports, whilst remaining focused on the task at hand.

“You’re making headlines,” Cotterill said, saluting Slot.

“I am,” Slot admitted, beaming.

“You said you wanted to go to the Premier League. Is this a possibility? he was asked.

“I can’t deny it,” Slot replied.

“Liverpool want you though,” Cotterill said as Slot walked away.

“But tonight we’re playing the Go Ahead Eagles,” came the response.

Slot won the Dutch league and cup in the last two seasons with Feyenoord.

Cotterill wished him luck and Slot thanked him.

With Jurgen Klopp resigning at the end of the season, Liverpool have searched through a carousel of managers to replace him.

The dream candidate at the start was Xabi Alonso, a former Red who led Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title and a currently undefeated season.

However, with Alonso affirming his intention to stay in Germany, hearts have turned to Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, who has the Portuguese club on course for a second league title in four years.

Liverpool’s interest in Amorim has cooled, however, and he flew to London for talks with West Ham earlier this week.
