A mixture that was killed by a South Jersey dog was tested positive for rage last week, said County County officials.
On May 16, a resident of Cherry Hill reported that their dog had killed a skipstick in their backyard, according to the authorities.
The mixture was sent to the state laboratory for tests and the County County Department of County said on Wednesday that the mixture was tested positive for rabies.
The dog received a boost in rage and will be quarantined for four months, officials said.
The mixture is the third animal of the County of Camden which has been tested positive for rage since early April.
Oaklyn police killed a raccoon suspected of being infected with rabies on April 27, according to county officials. The raccoon was confirmed that the rage by the state laboratory on May 2, officials said.
Earlier in April, a raccoon that attacked a dog in Collingswood was then confirmed by the state laboratory to also have rage.
“Although rage is a serious illness, it can be prevented by early treatment,” said Comté commissioner Virginia Betterridge, in conjunction with the County Department of County County. “If you have been bitten or scratched by a wild animal, it is important that you are looking for an immediate doctor.”
