Six people found dead in downtown Bangkok hotel, police say poisoning suspected

BANGKOK (AP) — Thai police said the bodies of six people were found Tuesday at a luxury hotel in downtown Bangkok and poisoning was suspected.

The Thai Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement that the victims were two Vietnamese-Americans and four Vietnamese citizens. They were not identified further.

Thai newspaper Matichon showed photos of police at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel investigating the deaths after being called by hotel staff late in the afternoon.

Bangkok police chief Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang said there was no sign of a fight. He added that the room residents were supposed to leave on Tuesday and their luggage had already been packed. He added that some food ordered from room service had not been eaten, but drinks had been consumed.

Investigators said the bodies were found foaming at the mouth, an officer at Lumpini police station said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the scene in the evening but provided no further information to reporters gathered at the scene.
