Six Flags Great America Posts Cryptic Social Media Message, Sparking Coaster Rumors – NBC Chicago

A cryptic message posted Thursday on Six Flags Great America’s social media channels has sparked a wave of speculation about a possible new attraction or changes to an existing one.

On Thursday afternoon, the park released a short video clip featuring the eyes of what appeared to be a predatory animal, accompanied by the message “#FearTheWrath.”

The six-second video clip was captioned “It is found through the eyes of demons.”

The overly cryptic message sparked far more questions than answers, with comments on social media immediately questioning the seemingly random capitalization of some of the letters in the caption.

The capital letters in the post spell out the word “SRHSS,” which appears to have left many commenters confused.

Others have turned their attention to the use of the word “demon,” potentially referring to Demon, a looping roller coaster that has been at the park since it opened in 1976 and has operated under its current theme since 1980.

“If you take the Demon away from me, I will be so sad,” responded one enthusiast on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another commenter wondered if this meant Demon would undergo a restoration, while others pointed to an unoccupied space near Demon that once housed the Buccaneer Battle, a water attraction where guests traveling in a boat were sprayed with water guns by spectators.

“The demon is said to be ‘looking’ towards the old Buccaneer battlefield,” one Facebook commenter said.

The Demon underwent minor restorations in 2023, including the removal of a makeshift rock formation that previously encircled the coaster’s second loop.

A post on Reddit pointed out that teasing was also taking place inside the park, with a promotional poster featuring a message reading “Shedding Skin” alongside “#FearTheWrath.”

Some coaster enthusiasts on Reddit have speculated that the combined Buccaneer Battle and Demon area could be used for a new large coaster. The park last got its new coaster in 2019, when the record-breaking Maxx Force opened.

Although the park hasn’t welcomed a new roller coaster in five years, a new flat ride, Sky Striker, debuted at the park last month.

The rumors come after amusement park giants Six Flags and Cedar Fair merged to form the new Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.

The company said it plans to invest in new attractions and food and beverage, with the post-merger entity operating 42 amusement and water parks in 17 states.

Official plans for the park remain unknown.
