King Charles has put a personal letter in a time capsule which will be buried in Ayrshire and opened in 100 years.
The King was the first person to place an item in the King’s Foundation capsule at Dumfries House, near Cumnock, as part of the charity’s 35th anniversary celebrations.
The monarch was joined by singer Sir Rod Stewart and his wife, Penny Lancaster, at the ceremony for the organization he founded as the Prince of Wales’s Institute of Architecture in 1990.
The association plans to collect objects representative of its work over the coming year before burying them in the estate’s capsule on the condition that it is not opened before 9:25 p.m.
King Charles founded the organization to promote sustainability and the public’s relationship with nature.
He supports approximately 15,000 students per year in nature-based education programs and thousands more through community regeneration projects.
It was absorbed by the Prince’s Foundation in 2018, which later became the King’s Foundation after his accession to the throne.
The charity is based on the Dumfries House estate, purchased by the King when he was Prince of Wales in 2007.
He was staying at the estate when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, fell seriously ill shortly before his death in September 2022.
The contents of King Charles’ letter will remain unknown until it is excavated a century from now.
Kristina Murrin, chief executive of the charity, said: “We are very proud of what the King’s Foundation has achieved over the last 35 years.
“I hope that those who discover the time capsule in 2125 will recognize the positive impact that the king and his foundation had on the world and its communities.”
King Charles also received an audience with Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone, on site.
The King was joined by TV presenter and charity ambassador Alan Titchmarsh at the event.
Stewart, 80, and Lancaster, also known as Lady Stewart, are among the charity’s well-known ambassadors.
Former England football captain David Beckham and actress Sienna Miller have also played this role.
Stewart said: “We are very pleased to come on board as ambassadors for the King’s Foundation and look forward to supporting this worthy cause, particularly in such an important year for the charitable organization. »
