Simone Biles Says People Need to ‘Stop Asking’ Olympic Athletes This Question

Simone Biles answered a question frequently asked of Olympic athletes.

Biles, who became the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history on July 30, gave her honest opinion on the social media site X.

“You really need to stop asking athletes what’s next after they win a medal at the Olympics,” the seven-time gold medalist wrote.

In a follow-up tweet, Biles explained her reasoning: “Let’s enjoy the moment we’ve worked our whole lives for,” she said.

Biles had a successful run at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She added three new gold medals to her collection for her performances in the women’s gymnastics team final, all-around final and vault final.

Throughout the Olympics, Biles has been outspoken on social media, including sharing her candid thoughts on the food in the Olympic Village as well as her reaction to criticism about her hair during competition.

On July 30, Biles shared an Instagram Story wearing a slicked-back ponytail hours before the women’s gymnastics team finals, posing with a hand fan.

“Don’t come to me about my hair,” she wrote on the photo. “IT WAS DONE but the bus has NO air conditioning and it’s like 3,000 degrees.”

In a second photo, she took a selfie with her eyes closed and the fan pointing at her face. She added an additional comment, writing, “I’ll hold your hand when I say this. Next time you want to comment on a black girl’s hair, DON’T.”

Biles also appeared to respond to controversial comments made by former President Donald Trump. In a post on X, Biles retweeted a message containing photos of herself posing with her gold medal and diamond goat necklace.

“I love my job as a black woman,” she wrote, likely in reference to comments Trump made during a National Association of Black Journalists panel and the June presidential debate.

Biles has also remained a fierce defender of her husband, Jonathan Owens, who was previously criticized for suggesting he was the “catch” in their relationship.

This time, she lashed out at critics who complained on social media about Owens wearing his Olympic gold medal.

On July 30, the NFL star shared an Instagram post in which he posed with his wife while he wore one of his gold medals. The caption was a sweet nod to his wife’s accomplishments, but the comments section was full of Instagram users accusing him of stealing the spotlight and demanding he remove the medal.

Biles entered the conversation on August 1 in the comments section of a TikTok video posted by internet personality Kiera Breaugh.

“The craziest thing is I put my medal on every single member of my family and took pictures. So don’t ever make assumptions,” she wrote. “Like you’re all so miserable. Leave us alone.”
