A forest fire in eastern California, which fled on Sunday, spread to 1,250 acres and caused evacuations, statement officials said.
The forest fire, named Silver Fire, started around 2:11 p.m. north of Bishop, a city halfway between Yosemite National Park and the Death Valley National Park, according to Cal Fire, the state fire agency.
The agency shared photos on social networks that showed brilliant flames and smoke clouds that burn a grassy rural area under imposing mountain ranges.
Strong winds helped to intensify the fire overnight, said Cal Fire on social networks on Monday morning, adding that he had “considerably increased” resources to stifle the fire. “The fire actively threatens structures, critical infrastructure, endangered species habitats, watersheds and cultural and heritage resources,” said the agency.
The officials ordered evacuations in certain parts of the county of Inyo and the county of Mono and closed a section of 30 miles of the American road 6. The fire was contained by zero percent, and there was no known injury of the fire on Sunday evening, according to Cal Fire.
On Sunday, efforts to fight rapid fire was complicated by strong winds that anchored certain planes, said Cal Fire.
The National Weather Service said that a high wind warning was still in place in the region on Monday morning and would remain throughout the evening. The meteorological service warned that gusts could reach up to 65 miles per hour and that strong winds could explode the power and trees.
