Signal problem disrupts commuter rail service at Gare du Nord

Commuter rail service alerts for the three affected MBTA lines indicate delays of up to 45 minutes.

A signal problem at Gare du Nord caused serious delays for commuter rail riders Tuesday morning, according to the MBTA.

The agency said in a post on that the problem impacted passengers on the Haverhill, Lowell and Fitchburg lines, as trains were forced to stop before entering or exiting the station.

“Our engineering team is working to resume regular service as soon as possible,” MBTA wrote at 7:46 a.m.

Commuter rail service alerts for affected lines indicated delays ranging from approximately 15 minutes 45 minutes away. And it goes without saying, some riders were less than delighted.

In a update shortly after 9 a.m., the MBTA announced that the problem had been resolved and normal train service had resumed with residual delays.
